Marta Hewitt

Cincinnati District Council President, Alison Zlatic and Marta Hewitt, Recipient of the Fires of Faith Award

The Fires of Faith Award is given to an individual whose spiritual fire inspires others and their conference. As President of the Bellarmine Conference, Marta Hewett lights the way to serving neighbors in need. The Vincentians at her conference describe her resilience and dedication to her work, “Even in the hardest situations, Marta endeavors to see the face of Christ and to respond with empathy and compassion.” Marta always ensures volunteers are well-equipped to bring the love of Christ to neighbors and coordinates a list of 14 families who are visited weekly by Vincentians. Always willing to meet neighbors at every season in life, she will take tough cases and walk with neighbors throughout the whole process.

Marta is committed to the mission of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) and works passionately to promote the organization at Bellarmine Chapel. She is responsible for establishing SVDP as Bellarmine Chapel’s primary poverty initiative to the local Avondale and Evanston neighborhoods. Through her leadership, Xavier University students are exposed to boundless love and charity, with over 20 students joining in on home visits.

Marta is a shining example of Christ’s love and her devotion to her faith inspires us. She leads her conference in faith and fellowship, attending the annual SVDP retreat where she encouraged Vincentians to “soak our neighbors in prayer.” As an artist, Marta finds beauty and shine in all things. She is a driving force within the organization and recently joined the SVDP Board of Directors. We are so thrilled by Marta’s continued involvement and look forward to her bright light leading the way for years to come.
