Strike Out Hunger

Enjoy a game and help feed struggling families

Summer is a critical time for struggling families. When schools are out, too many families must find ways to feed their children, who might otherwise receive free or reduced breakfasts or lunches at school. So they turn to us.

Fortunately, for nearly 15 years we’ve been able to meet the need and “Strike Out Hunger” thanks to a partnership with the Cincinnati Reds. During two games in June, collection barrels are set up outside of Great American Ball Park, and fans who donate three non-perishable food items to our food pantry receive a ticket to a future Reds game.

Reds fans typically donate more than three tons of food, or enough to provide 5,300 meals to struggling families. The food is distributed through our Ted and Becky Catino Choice Food Pantry and our network of 11 neighborhood food pantries around the county.

How you can help

Collecting the food and handing out tickets at different GABP entrances over two days requires a lot of volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Program Manager, Alec Jewell, at ajewell@svdpcincinnati.org.
