St. Vincent de Paul Conference members work in small groups, generally associated with Catholic parishes, to quietly care for their neighbors in need, regardless of race, creed or background. 58 conferences with more than 800 volunteers help people in need of assistance with the most basic needs -- food, shelter, clothing, transportation and emotional comfort. Their motivation is pure - help a neighbor in need overcome the struggles of poverty, loneliness, illness and other family problems.

Our conference members and volunteers live the belief that a small kindness can make a big difference. Helping a neighbor in need is often as simple as offering enough food to make it to the end of the month, or clothing for school or work. At other times, conferences may help with rent or utilities, or assist people with more persistent problems to find the help they need. In all cases, our goal is to provide comfort and support through personal care and concern.

St. Vincent de Paul volunteers care for their neighbors in need year-round. To contact the conference nearest you or to learn how to start your own conference, contact Gary Horton (513) 562-8841 x234 or e-mail us at: ghorton@svdpcincinnati.org

"There was a woman with three little children who called for help. We arrived with some food and when we got in there, there wasn't a thing in that house except one beat up old television. I put out the word in my parish that we needed some things. We took two loads including beds for the children's rooms. The children had been sleeping on the floor with no blankets or anything."
-Lee Wenstrup, St. Dominic Conference Volunteer
