Individual Volunteer
Volunteering individually is very rewarding at St. Vincent de Paul. We have one-time opportunities for those with busy lifestyles, and episodic opportunities for those who want to volunteer on a regular basis. And, you won't be alone! Not only will you receive support from the Volunteer Coordinator, you'll make friends with other volunteers, staff and get to know our neighbors in need!
All volunteers must possess a sincere desire to be of service to others. All interested volunteers must contact the Volunteer Coordinator and schedule a time to meet in person to receive a tour of the facility and orientation to the organization before being assigned a volunteer role.

Pantry Floor Cleaner-We're in need of individuals to clean (sweep and mop) our pantry floor on a regular basis. A clean pantry allows us to provide an environment of dignity and respect for our neighbors in need of food.
Front Desk-West End Outreach Center
- Front Desk Assistant-Help provide access to services such as bus tokens, food, clothing, rent and utility assistance and other basic material needs. As the "face of the organization" this volunteer is instrumental in our mission of fostering hope on a person to person basis. Time commitment: Once per week for approximately 2-4 hours between 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.
- Hospitality Volunteer-Many people come to St. Vincent de Paul in need of services. That means there are times clients may spend a significant amount of time in line and in the lobby. Hospitality volunteers will prepare and serve coffee, may bring refreshments, and big smiles to our guests. Time commitment: Can be one-time or recurring event on Monday and Thursdays from 8-11 a.m. and Tuesday, Friday, Saturday from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Social Services-West End Outreach Center
- Client Advocate-Provide direct service to clients who come to our office for assistance on walk-in days. Services provided include clothing vouchers, bus tokens, photo IDs/birth certificates, hygiene items, rent and utilities assistance applications and referrals to other agencies as appropriate. Time commitment: Volunteers must be able to commit to volunteering at least two mornings per month and complete an introductory training program. Monday or Thursday mornings, 8:45 a.m. - 12 p.m.
- Home Visit Volunteer-Volunteers in this role represent the values of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to the clients they encounter, as well as providing needed services and a listening ear. Additionally, they offer the client a sense of hope and community concern. The volunteer should be a good listener, non-judgmental, sensitive and friendly. Volunteers are always paired when making home visits. Time commitment: Approximately two hours weekly on Wednesday mornings beginning at 9 a.m.
- Social Services Office Assistant-Provide administrative support to the Social Services office. Duties include data entry, filing and other support work as needed. Maintaining accurate client records ensures that we can provide the best possible service to our clients. Should possess basic computer skills and a strong sense of organization. Time commitment: This position is flexible within our normal business hours.
Edyth and Carl Lindner Choice Food Pantry-West End Outreach Center
Pantry hours are Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
- Pantry Helper-The Choice Food Pantry is one of the major services that St. Vincent de Paul provides to the community and is almost entirely run by volunteers. This role assists with a wide variety of activities to support the pantry operations. Ability to life moderately heavy boxes is helpful, but not required. Time commitment: Interested candidates can volunteer on either a one-time or recurring basis and should arrive 45 minutes early.
- Pantry Guide-Pantry Guides are the smiling faces and kind voices that visitors will remember. They foster hope by assisting clients with their choice of food items. The Choice Food Pantry allows clients to choose the items they want off of the shelves (similar to a grocery store) and Pantry Guides are there to assist each step of the way. This position is a good fit for volunteers interested in direct service to the poor, lonely and forgotten in our community. Time commitment: Volunteers can participate on either a one-time or recurring basis and should plan to stay for the full two hours of operation, arriving at the pantry at least 15 minutes early.
- Food Pick-up & Delivery-Ideally, Food Pick-up & Delivery Volunteers will have a car, truck or van to use for pick-ups. Interested volunteers without an automobile can still help other drivers who need assistance. Depending on the produce selected, lifting of items from 10-50 pounds would be necessary. Time commitment: We prefer for drivers to volunteer on a recurring basis of their choosing, as little as once a month or as often as a few times a week. Days and times vary.
Charitable Pharmacy-West End Outreach Center
Come serve a neighbor in need on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. Volunteers are needed to work in the pharmacy, help stock and sort medical donations and assist with the intake process. All pre-pharmacy students must be willing to commit to a minimum of three months and at least 25 cumulative volunteer hours.
Winton Hills Outreach Center
Supporting the Winton Terrace neighborhood, the St. Vincent de Paul Outreach Center provides a number of services to neighbors in need, including a GED program Monday through Thursday mornings.
