Homelessness Prevention
St. Vincent de Paul's help is diverse and far-reaching, but it begins in prevention. For those living paycheck to paycheck an unexpected expense such as a car repair or a child's medical bill can set the whole household over budget. Often a small investment to help with a rent or utility bill will save a family from eviction or having water or electricity turned off and ultimately catches them before they become homeless.
St. Vincent de Paul in the West End works with 56 conferences, mostly connected to Catholic parishes, and a satellite office in Winton Hills to prevent homelessness throughout Hamilton County and Greater Cincinnati. Those in need meet personally with our staff or one of our members to alleviate the initial need and work towards long-term solutions with budget overviews, our financial literacy program, job readiness program and other resources.
