Reds Food Drive June 25 - 27

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will be will be collecting food Friday, June 25 through Sunday June 27 during the Reds vs. Cleveland Indians series at Great American Ball Park to feed families in need in Cincinnati.

St. Vincent de Paul will be partnering with the Cincinnati Reds and NEWS 5 to give a pair of View Level tickets to the July 20, 2010 Reds vs. Nationals game to the first 2,000 fans each day of the three game series donating a minimum of two non-perishable food items in designated food collection barrels, limit two tickets per person, per day. In addition, each fan donating to the food drive can enter a drawing to throw out the first pitch at the July 20 game. The 2009 SVDP Reds Food Drive collected over 20,000 lbs of food, which fed 7,000 people in our community for one day.

"Requests for food assistance continue to come in at record levels, particularly from people who have never sought our services before – those who have unexpectedly lost their job or other crisis and are having a tougher time making ends meet as a result of rising food costs," said Liz Carter, executive director of St. Vincent de Paul. "The support of the community is vital for us to be able to provide food to all clients – to not turn anyone away," she continued. St. Vincent de Paul provided 55,000 people with groceries in 2009. Nearly half of that food was provided to families with children. "For the fourth year, we're pleased to partner with St. Vincent de Paul to help impact the hunger issue in our community," said Lorrie Platt, Cincinnati Reds community relations director. "It's important to us to involve our fans to help those in need."

The game schedule during the food drive is as follows:

  • Sat June 26 - 7:10pm
  • Sun June 27 - 1:10pm
