Resource Fair 2011
Effective Conferences maintain ties to the community. Helping people today often requires knowledge of and referrals to other public and private agencies. The Conference deliberately makes itself known to these groups and cultivates relationships of mutual respect to facilitate referrals to and from such agencies. (SVDP Manual, p. 29)
Vincentians from across the Cincinnati area had a chance to meet with experts from 30 local social service agencies at this year's Resource Fair. Agency representatives explained exactly what services they offer, provided reference materials, and spoke with individual Vincentians to answer questions. The event was designed to improve collaboration in order to better serve our neighbors in need.
Many thanks to our agency partners, our hosts at St. Ignatius church, and all who attended.
Three panels of experts began the morning by explaining the specifics of how their agencies could assist conferences in addressing some of the most common challenges that our neighbors in need face.
Attendees then had a chance to visit representatives of dozens of social service agencies in order to pick up information and clarify any questions in one-on-one conversation.
Tabletop exhibits allowed Vincentians to discover new organizations that they hadn't known before and also to gain a deeper understanding of organizations they had worked with for many years.
Among the representatives were staff from the St. Vincent de Paul Cincinnati District Council, who explained the many services offered through the Bank Street outreach center and 7 local thrift stores.
The Resource Fair also provided a chance for Vincentians from around the city to socialize and grow in friendship.
